Nuts for Natives blog

Shari Wilson, former Virginia Secretary of the Environment and avid native plant advocate, provides the most comprehensive list of native plant landscapers in the DMV and online.

See also Shari’s list of native plant nurseries; several also provide design and installation services.

Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council

The Chesapeake Conservation Landscaping Council maintains this directory of professionals who have completed one or both levels of certification.

You may wish to read more about the training to decide if professionals with this training would fit your needs.

Montgomery County Rainscapes Program

The Montgomery County Rainscapes Program maintains this list of contractors with employees who have taken Rainscapes training. The list indicates contractors who have done “conservation landscaping,” which refers to the design and installation of native plants. “Rain gardens,” by contrast, are projects that involve the construction of underground pits with specific layering to retain water.

Note that residents of Takoma Park are not eligible for Rainscapes rebates. Residents may, however, enroll in Rainscapes workshops to learn more about controlling water on their properties.
