Website and Communications

Website

The website was originally created to make the FONTT Native Tree Selection Guide available to the public.

An early expansion of the website was to add the ongoing monthly blog, Takoma Nativeson native plants, trees and yards in and around Takoma Park.  It frequently showcases residents who have improved and maintained their yards through plants and practices that support nature better.

In 2025, the website was reorganized to convey FONTT’s purpose more clearly. The main changes were:

  • Reorganize the website to create three sections corresponding to FONTT’s main areas of intervention — Remove Invasives, Plant Natives, and Maintain Habitat — and expand the content in these areas.
  • Revise the Welcome page to present FONTT’s aims and strategy succinctly.
  • Redesign the About Us page to add details on our aims and strategy and to provide overviews of our main activities.

In 2026, the main work will be to add information to the three new sections, develop more posts showing how people have applied this information in their yards and along their streets, and to work with the POSTer Team to disseminate these stories to local residents.

As of December 4th, 2025, the website had had 4,800 unique visitors and 9,100 views in the previous twelve months. These totals are down somewhat from 2024.

POSTer Team

This team posts notices (hence the name, POSTer) about FONTT and its mission on listservs and Facebook Groups serving Takoma Park and area neighborhoods. Each notice highlights a single topic and almost always contains a link to the FONTT website for more information.

In 2025, POSTer posted notices on average a little over once a month. In 2026, the team plans to expand the number of notices to several times a month. Each notice will link to a page on the FONTT website, mostly blog posts that tell a story about Takoma Park residents improving their yards by removing invasives, planting natives, maintaining habitat, or some combination of these actions. The POSTer and Native Landscaping teams will work together to generate and communicate these stories.

Email Distribution Lists

FONTT has eschewed a newsletter in favor of very short single topic emails sent to subscribers and members 1-3 times per month. The idea is to make it easy for readers to quickly absorb the message in a minute or two. Those people interested in more information can click a link to get this.

Members receive additional emails in regard to FONTT’s internal operations and decision-making.

As of December 2025, FONTT has 57 subscribers and 53 members.
